The four Small Isles of Eigg, Rum, Muck and Canna are accessible by CalMac (http://www.calmac.co.uk/) ferry from Mallaig on the mainland, although note that during the winter service is limited and that throughout the year the daily timetable changes, so overnight trips are often necessary.
A great deal of beautiful and historic country is on the Scottish "mainland" side of the Skye Bridge, beyond Kyle of Lochalsh.
